Children in the Bible

The idea for this book came about after I taught my Sunday School class a series I called ‘Children in the Bible.’ I taught this series because I wanted to encourage my Sunday School class in their walk with the Lord. Sometimes, young people are convinced that they need to wait until they’re adults to be used by God, and at other times, young people use their youth as an excuse for why they won’t live how God desires them to live. This study challenged my class to have the same compassion, courage, and convictions as the young people we learned about in the Bible. It also reminded them to be bold in their faith.

While the content for this book was taught to young people, the biblical truths presented are for those young and old. We can all learn from the examples of these young lives found in God’s Word. In some ways, their examples stand out more because of their young age and the circumstances they faced.

If they could live for God, then what’s our excuse?

We’ll begin with Naaman's servant girl. She’s a young girl who is often overlooked in the historical account of Naaman. This young lady teaches us about compassion and having the right attitude toward others, especially during very difficult circumstances.

Next, we’ll consider Daniel when he was a young boy forced to live in a strange new place. We’ll learn that, in spite of the prestigious position he was being groomed for, he would not compromise on the Word of God. Daniel held firm to his convictions regarding the king’s food, and God blessed him for his obedience.

As a young girl, Miriam was the daughter of slaves. She lived in Egypt during a time when the children of Israel were living in bondage under Pharaoh. Her life as the oldest child in the family will teach us about having faith in the midst of frightening times and facing these circumstances with courage and boldness.

We’ll finish the book by taking a look at the life of an eight-year-old boy who became a king. We’ll learn that in spite of the negative influence and wicked examples he saw from family members, Josiah chose to seek after God. He committed his life and reign as the king of Judah to serve the Lord.

In each of their lives, because of their commitment, courage, conviction, and compassion, pagan people turned to the Lord, God’s plan was fulfilled, and lives were changed.
